Overview

Elamipretide (SS-31, MTP-131) is a mitochondria-targeting aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide with the sequence D-Arg-2,6-dimethyltyrosine-Lys-Phe-NH2. Its alternating cationic and aromatic residues allow it to concentrate at the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it associates with cardiolipin — the defining feature that distinguishes it from most other research peptides.

Mechanistic research has examined how SS-31 binding to cardiolipin influences cristae structure, electron-transport-chain organization, and mitochondrial membrane electrostatics. Because mitochondrial dysfunction is a recurring theme in aging and metabolic biology, elamipretide is a frequently used tool compound; some of this work is preclinical while the molecule has also progressed into clinical investigation for mitochondrial disorders, which BioTech Pharma does not address.

BioTech Pharma supplies elamipretide as a lyophilized powder for in-vitro and preclinical research use only; it is not a drug and is not intended for human or veterinary use. Lot-specific analytical documentation may be available and should be confirmed for the applicable material.
